116 low-rent apartments will be built in Jelgava for 12 million euros
116 low-rent apartments are planned to be built in Jelgava for 12 million euros, LETA agency learned from the municipality. Today, at the meeting of the Jelgava City Council, the deputies confirmed the results of the auction of an undeveloped plot of land on Ganību Street 54 and decided to sell it to SIA “Jelgavas īres nami” (JĪN) for 146,000 euros. This company was the only bidder. Bidders who undertake to build low-rent housing on this plot of land in the support program of the development financial institution “Altum” could participate in the auction. JĪN board member Jānis Lagzdiņš informs that the company plans to build two five-story buildings on the plot of land, which will have 116 apartments. The construction will take place with the support of the low-rent housing construction loan program of the financial institution “Altum”. The program provides loans for the construction of residential rental houses in the regions with the aim of promoting the availability of housing for households that cannot afford housing at market conditions. The total investment in the project will be around 12 million euros. It is planned that the apartments will have an area from 25 square meters for one-room apartments to 75 square meters for three-room apartments. The construction company plans to start in the spring of 2024, so that by 2025 the buildings will have been built. Houses will be energy efficient – practically zero energy buildings, which in turn means that utility payments will also be small. The rent in these houses will not be higher than 6 euros per square meter, explains Lagzdiņš. The regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers provide that the apartments are rented out to households that are registered in line according to the rental procedure set out in the binding regulations of the municipalities, including the priority order for certain population groups. In April of this year, the Jelgava municipality approved binding regulations on the procedure for renting out apartments in low-rent residential buildings. Households that want to register in the rental register will have to submit documents confirming the conditions to the municipality, which will be evaluated by the Housing Commission.
