70 million euros will be invested in the housing village on the outskirts of Mežciema
The housing developer “Bonava Latvija” on the outskirts of Mežciema, in the area between Ēvalda Valteras iela and Kaivas iela, plans to build the largest new housing village in Latvia by 2030, which will consist of 15 six-story residential buildings with more than 800 energy-efficient and modern two- to four-room apartments .

Construction and housing sales in the first block of the project, which will consist of three buildings with 162 apartments, are planned to start next year. The investment volume of the future village will exceed 70 million euros. The five development phases of the project, which has already acquired the name “Walterciems”, will create well-arranged blocks of residential houses, which will be crossed by pedestrian paths, green courtyards, recreation, play, sports and other areas, which will connect to a large central recreation area. Each of the inner blocks of houses is planned in such a way that the parking spaces are located outside, while the arrangement of the buildings creates a free courtyard. “Although the demand for apartments in new projects has slowed down a bit due to high loan interest rates, we can see that the need for energy-efficient and functionally designed housing is still high. Therefore, despite certain challenges, it is important to continue the development of new projects, so that when the Euribor curve goes down again, the market can quickly adapt and accumulate the growing interest. Otherwise, when the economy recovers, we risk facing an even bigger deficit of new housing than in 2021,” says Mareks Kļaviņš, chairman of the board of Bonava Latvija. An individual ventilation system with recuperation function will be installed in each apartment to ensure fresh air at all times. Solar panels will also be placed on the roofs of the buildings to reduce electricity bills. “The southern part of Mežciema and Dreiliņi, due to its location, developed infrastructure and vast areas of nature and greenery, are one of the most sought-after districts of Riga for living, which is also perfectly confirmed by the sales results of the popular project “Dreilinga Houses” located nearby. At the same time, with the new project “Walterciems”, we will try to go even further, creating not just housing, but a self-sufficient village with a special central recreation area, where there will be various multifunctional recreation and sports areas, including basketball and beach volleyball courts, a fitness station with free weights area and grandstands,” explains Kaspars Ekša, head of sales and marketing of “Bonava Latvija”, the improvement of the project.
