As part of the revitalization worth 17 million euros, tree planting has started in the vicinity of Skanste
Tree planting has started on the territory of the future park in the vicinity of Skanstes, informs the Riga City Council.
“Our goal is to ensure the revitalization of a previously degraded area and to create a widely accessible and multifunctional public outdoor space, which integrates the rainwater collection system in the form of ponds and canals, which is vital for the Skanstes neighborhood and Riga. A modern multi-functional green area freely accessible to the public is currently being built around it, which will give the residents of Riga and its guests the opportunity for passive and active recreation on a daily basis,” explains Oksana Dumpe, Head of the Project Management Department of the City Development Department of Riga City Council. In general, it is planned to plant around 1,000 trees in the park area and along the routes of the red lines of the streets, of which 284 trees have a trunk circumference of 25-30 cm, or large trees. A large variety of trees and shrubs is planned – 30 types of deciduous and coniferous trees, as well as more than 20 types of 755 leafy shrubs, will be planted in the park. More than 10,000 perennials and other plants will also be planted. On the territory of the future park, walking paths more than 2 kilometers long are currently being built, a large skate park, sports fields, children’s recreation and playgrounds for different age groups are also planned. Also, the construction of Lapeņu Street, Jāņa Dikmaņa Street, Jāņa Krūmiņa Street and Jāņa Daliņa Street is currently underway. Large-scale civil engineering construction is being carried out to install a water pipe, domestic sewerage, stormwater drainage and street lighting, as well as a street rainwater collection and drainage system. The concept of landscaping and landscaping of the territory is based on the principle solutions of the open surface water drainage system and unified public outdoor space development developed in the local plan of Skanstes. The territory of Skanste, which is being developed on the principles of sustainability, has been improved with the aim of making it accessible to every resident of the city and its guests, while at the same time increasing the quality and safe use of Riga’s urban environment, as well as the aesthetic and ecological values of the environment.
