Ķengarags – a neighborhood of the city of Riga in the suburbs of Latgale

History and importance in Riga

Ķengarags, is one of the most populated micro-districts in Riga, it ranks 2nd among the population of micro-districts with more than 50,000 inhabitants. As a settlement, “Ķengarags” is mentioned already in the 16th century, which comes from the name of a farmer, Ķenga. He lived in a place where the Daugava makes a bend, forming a promontory, or where a stud is exposed in the Daugava. Part of Ķengaraga was barren, sandy or swampy, so mostly everyone was engaged in fishing or some went to Riga. Ħengarag continued to industrialize in the first half of the 19th century. Several manufactories were established, a sugar manufactory, 3 pot and brick factories, as well as the Kuznetsov porcelain factory, where T/C Acropolis is currently located. Kengaragu can be divided into two parts divided by Moskavas Street. The Daugava side, that is, everything that goes from Maskava Street to the Daugava side, and if we are talking about real estate, then it should be mentioned that here the prices will be relatively more expensive and this is for some obvious reasons: The not so long ago built Ķengaraga promenade, which is surrounded by natural given splendor, its green surroundings and of course the Daugava coast. Fans of fresh air and an active lifestyle will also find a street exercise area. Several benches have been created along the Ķengarag promenade so that you can sit down and enjoy the wonderful weather, sunset or sunrise, or simply sit. Ħengarag is even very suitable for families, as there are many places to spend time actively in the surrounding area.

Territory and construction

Ķengarags – a gorgeous micro-district, where of course there are many transactions with real estate, although Ķengarags is developing rapidly against the background of the surrounding micro-districts, in terms of prices, it is not one of the most expensive, but several record-high transactions have been recorded, in serial buildings exceeding 1,300 eur/m2 mark on the side of the promenade of Ķengaraga. Mainly, Lithuanian projects and Khrushchev-era buildings dominate, followed by series 467, small-family projects, Czech projects, less, but there are also Brezhnev-era and Stalin-era buildings, and a small part is occupied by new buildings and new projects.
